5 Reasons To Vote FOR the Socorro Bond

21st CENTURY LEARNING FOR ALL HIGH SCHOOLS!

Our school district is known for high academic achievement, but many of our high school learning environments are unable to support modern teaching and learning. Socorro High School is over 50 years old and was originally designed as a middle school. Over time, buildings and structures have been added to accommodate for learning trends at that time. This bond will provide for the reconstruction of Socorro HS including modern safety and security features, new classrooms, library, cafeteria, athletic and fine arts facilities and state of the art Career and Technology spaces.  Americas, El Dorado, and Montwood High Schools will receive safety and security upgrades, exterior and interior building improvements, building additions, and energy-efficient system upgrades.

KEEP UP WITH GROWTH

SISD is growing!  During the last two years, the District grew by 1,400 students and expects to add another 700 this year!  To meet the needs of our students and teachers, we need to act now!  Two new Elementary schools and one Middle School will prevent overcrowding in the Pebble Hills and Eastlake zones.  SISD has a comprehensive Master Facilities Plan that guides facility decisions as the growth occurs.

NEW INDOOR ACTIVITY ROOMS AT 16 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Unlike newer schools, the District’s first 16 elementary schools only have a single cafeteria space, which serves as a lunch room, auditorium, and physical education space.  This space is shared during the day for different classes and purposes.  These schools are limited to their physical education opportunities especially during times of inclement weather.  This bond provides a new multi-purpose room at these campuses for our students to work their bodies as well as their minds.

NEW TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS CENTER

The current Network Operations Center is located in a metal warehouse building that was built in 1960 and is located in the southern tip of the district.  The building leaks and lacks disaster protection for the District’s student information and billing systems.  Bond funds will provide a central, secure location to house the Maintenance and Technology teams.

BY THE COMMUNITY FOR THE COMMUNITY

The Facilities Advisory Committee of 30 diverse parents, retirees, business and community members volunteered to study and prioritize the District’s most critical needs.  This proposal is largely their recommendation.
